CEI EN/IEC 60512-23-3 - SHIELDING EFFECTIVENESS OF CONNECTORS AND ACCESSORIES (1 GHZ - 3 GHZ)
The test method of CEI EN/IEC 60512-23-3 outlines the requirements for testing connectors in order to determine their ability to prevent the passage of unwanted electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) between mated connector pairs, which can cause interference and degrade system performance. The shielding effectiveness is measured in decibels (dB), which represents the ratio between the power of the incoming signal and the power of the signal that passes through the connector.
The test procedures outlined in IEC 60512-23-3 involve measuring the electromagnetic radiation emitted by a connector pair, and comparing it to the radiation emitted by a reference antenna. The difference in power between the two signals is used to calculate the shielding effectiveness of the connector pair.
This test is also suitable for measuring the shielding effectiveness of a connector fitted with triaxial contacts terminated with shielded, twisted pair cables, as used in data bus systems.
The frequency range for which this test method is considered reliable is between 1 GHz to 3 GHz.
The following connectors can be tested:
- circular connectors
- rectangular connectors
- printed circuit board connectors
- connector shielding accessories
